In most cases we like the cover artwork to be something readers can create themselves in the magazine, so it has to look good, but also feel achievable too. Finding good cover images is a lot harder than it looks believe it or not, with lots of elements that have to be considered. Firstly you have to find an image that is not too similar to previous issues both in terms of topic as well as colour. Next you need an image that is striking and has an obvious focal point to drawer the reader in. Thirdly there's the issue of composition - do all the important elements of the image fit in the space given? Finally you have to consider whether the image has enough space to place text. It's an exhausting process that involves a lot of stropping, huffing and puffing and jaffa cakes.We always get there in the end though! Both Canon and Nikon announced their Autumn line up and we think we're in love. Canon's announced a bevy of beauties including the Powershot G9, Ixus 960 IS and no less than 10 Pixma printers. Top of their range is the 40D, which set our hearts a-flutter! On the Nikon front, they've announced the D300 and the D3, both set to cause a stir in the pro end of the market. He believes certain people are unfairly rating images in order to bring peoples' overall scores down. It's really sad to think people would be so spiteful as to downgrade work that is blatantly worthy of good ratings. Please use the rating system to provide your fellow users with feedback not to purposefully spite them. This is a creative site, to encourage each other and gain insight and inspiration. Well we're back to a full team again and thankfully we're back on track for Friday's deadline (Not that we have a choice!). Today we have to get our cover artwork signed off by the directors and send it to the printers. You wouldn't believe the amount of checking and double checking that has to be done before we can send it off - but it's definitely worth it. Imagine the shame if we had a mistake on the cover! I've just been on the forum to check out the progress of this month's Forum Challenge. The theme is 'Dungeons & Dragons' and the entries are brilliant. It was a great opportunity to catch up on latest technologies HP are planning to launch this year, plus meet some interesting people along the way. One such person was photographer legend Douglas Kirkland who's photographed iconic stars such as Marilyn Monroe. He was keen to point out the importance of quality printing and how a this is just as important as your work itself.
