The Photoshop Creative website has had such a huge response, with some fantastic uploads of artwork. With such a massive influx of images, it's tricky to always get round to each and every one to comment, so I urge you all to give each other moral support and give gallery users your much-appreciated opinions on their work. This is not a site for sucking up to each other - the best way to improve is to be critiqued, so be sure to compliment and offer advice and opinions to help each other grow in confidence and skill.Be sure to check out the latest gallery showcase picks too - there is some fantastic work from Christopher Haines and Freddy Camargo, which is well worth a look! http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2008-04-22 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2008-04-22 Tue, 22 Apr 2008 09:46:18 +0100 In Focus Give us some tips! Now things have settled down, it's a great opportunity to get outside and start making the most of the artistic possibilities surrounding you. Whether it's a mini photo expedition to build up you stock library or finding items to transform into quirky Photoshop brushes (shells, feathers, blossom - you name it you can use it!) there is plenty of opportunity in the great outdoors. We think we've got our cover image now - we have a choice of two ideas so it's a case of waiting to see what the artwork is like when the freelancer has written the tutorial. In most cases we like the cover artwork to be something readers can create themselves in the magazine, so it has to look good, but also feel achievable too. Finding good cover images is a lot harder than it looks believe it or not, with lots of elements that have to be considered. Firstly you have to find an image that is not too similar to previous issues both in terms of topic as well as colour. Next you need an image that is striking and has an obvious focal point to drawer the reader in. Thirdly there's the issue of composition - do all the important elements of the image fit in the space given? Finally you have to consider whether the image has enough space to place text. It's an exhausting process that involves a lot of stropping, huffing and puffing and jaffa cakes. We always get there in the end though! We'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas for the cover of Photoshop Creative. What topics would you like to put on there and which types of images do you think would work well. I hope your preparations for Christmas are going a whole lot better than mine are! I'm so stuck for gift ideas this year and I feel like I'm failing at the one thing I do best - shopping! Hopefully in your towns and cities, the shoppers aren't as manic as they are here in Bournemouth. I've given up going into town on my lunch break as it's too much to bear - the pushing and shoving, the flustered, panicked faces. The scary thing is, that’s probably what I look like too! That's why I've decided to join the hundreds of thousands of others resorting to the internet to do their Christmas shopping. I'm also off to Barcelona on Thursday for the weekend, so hopefully the Spanish shoppers are a lot more laid back and I might get my shopping powers back! I'll let you know how it goes... In the meantime, hope you all get a chance to enjoy the Christmas run-up. Look out for the news in issue 27 where we'll reveal all about these products. http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-24 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-24 Fri, 24 Aug 2007 12:52:00 +0100 In Focus Rating riot I received an email today from a regular to this website who has alerted me to some suspicious online behaviour. He believes certain people are unfairly rating images in order to bring peoples' overall scores down. It's really sad to think people would be so spiteful as to downgrade work that is blatantly worthy of good ratings. Please use the rating system to provide your fellow users with feedback not to purposefully spite them. This is a creative site, to encourage each other and gain insight and inspiration. Using it as source of 'one-up man ship' is not acceptable. http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-13 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-13 Mon, 13 Aug 2007 15:12:11 +0100 In Focus Something yummy If you're feeling a bit competitive then check out the latest forum challenge and have a go: http://www.pshopcreative.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1935 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-08 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-08 Wed, 08 Aug 2007 17:27:24 +0100 In Focus One week to go... It's one week to go until deadline day so things are getting a little hectic round here. There's proofing to be done, finishing touches to the cover to be made and the CD to be completed. Hopefully you've picked up issue 25 by now - check out the amazing competition we've got on page 55. You can now download the competition images from the website. http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-06 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-06 Mon, 06 Aug 2007 12:07:01 +0100 In Focus Power cut It's been a rather frustrating day so far, due to an almost two-hour power cut this morning. I was happily writing the news pages when everything went down. It's amazing how much we rely on computers these days - and Im ashamed to say I actually felt quite on edge not being able to check my inbox! Luckily everything is in order now which means we can finish putting next issue together. By the way - Issue 25 goes on sale tomorrow! http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-01 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-01 Wed, 01 Aug 2007 12:45:55 +0100 In Focus Monday fun It's been a quiet day in the Photoshop Creative office, so I've been getting stuck into writing the news for next issue. It's amazing how fast the world of technology moves. Only last month I reviewed Casio's first ever 12 megapixel camera and now judging by the press releases in my In-box it seems everyone is following suit! Who know's what gadgetry we'll be trying out next year! Oh- don't forget there are the last few back issue up for grabs on the Imagine Shop if you're missing old issues - we stumbled across a secret stash and thought we'd share them with you! http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-30 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-30 Mon, 30 Jul 2007 17:54:23 +0100 In Focus Old issues back in stock!!! Exciting news! We have a small amount of back issues in stock available to buy, which were previously sold out. So if you've been pining for an old issue go to www.imagineshop.co.uk straight away ! http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-26 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-26 Thu, 26 Jul 2007 11:02:44 +0100 In Focus New work By now you should have seen the latest members who have made it onto the homepage as a result of their great work this week. Check out the latest Pic of the Week and the two latest members who's galleries have been chosen as our top picks. Photoshop Creative magazine is your learning tool, so we want to make it as helpful as possible when it comes to developing your creative skills. We love receiving letters and emails from readers with tutorial suggestions, requests for certain products or books to be reviewed as well as general comments on the magazine. In fact just the other day there was a tutorial suggestion on the forum which is now being written for issue 27. So if you have any topics you'd like to see covered or any tools you'd like to know how to master then make sure you get in touch. Either post a topic on the forum www.pshopcreative.co.uk/forum which is checked everyday or drop us an email at pcr@imagine-publishing.co.uk. We look forward to hearing from you! http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-19 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-19 Thu, 19 Jul 2007 12:54:20 +0100 In Focus Brush bother If you've picked up issue 24 of Photoshop Creative, you'll have seen the main tutorial is on creating Chinese paintings. Unfortunately the tutorial files included some brushes that are not compatible with Photoshop 7, so we've now uploaded some new ones to this website that everybody can use - hurrah! Simply go to the left hand column on the homepage and select 'Tutorial Files'. http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-12 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-12 Thu, 12 Jul 2007 15:59:38 +0100 In Focus Almost there Can't believe it's Wednesday already - this week is flying by! Well we're back to a full team again and thankfully we're back on track for Friday's deadline (Not that we have a choice!). Today we have to get our cover artwork signed off by the directors and send it to the printers. You wouldn't believe the amount of checking and double checking that has to be done before we can send it off - but it's definitely worth it. Imagine the shame if we had a mistake on the cover! I've just been on the forum to check out the progress of this month's Forum Challenge. The theme is 'Dungeons & Dragons' and the entries are brilliant. Make sure you go and have a look and submit an entry if you can. The more the merrier! Have a good Wednesday. http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-11 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-11 Wed, 11 Jul 2007 12:04:35 +0100 In Focus Manic Monday It's the last week in our deadline and we're busy putting the finishing touches to Issue 25. There are pages to proof, sections to finish writing and the last few pages to design. We're a team member down today, which means we'll have to get our heads down for the remainder of the week to get everything done, but I'm sure it will be fine! http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-09 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-09 Mon, 09 Jul 2007 17:03:59 +0100 In Focus The weekend is here! Well it's been yet another hectic week in the Photoshop Creative office and we're certainly looking forward to the weekend. I've been putting together the details for an exciting new competition which is due to appear in Issue 25, whilst Photoshop Creative Designer Dani has been busy putting the finishing touches to next issue's cover. Hopefully we will be able to recharge the batteries before the craziness of deadline week begins on Monday! Have a great weekend everybody, hope you get a chance to upload some lovely artwork onto the galleries. It was a great opportunity to catch up on latest technologies HP are planning to launch this year, plus meet some interesting people along the way. One such person was photographer legend Douglas Kirkland who's photographed iconic stars such as Marilyn Monroe. He was keen to point out the importance of quality printing and how a this is just as important as your work itself. This week Im going to be paying a lot more attention to print quality to ensure my work gets the treatment it deserves! http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-02 http://photoshopcreative.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-02 Mon, 02 Jul 2007 13:01:36 +0100 In Focus Welcome to the new and improved website! Well it's finally here and we think it's looking rather good even if we do say so ourselves! The new look website means even more interactivity for you guys - not only can you upload you images to our galleries, but at long last you can download those all-important Readers' Challenge pictures too. We hope we can build upon the great community spirit that's already present on the Photoshop Creative forum and use this site as a great resource for advice, feedback, friendly banter and most importantly fun.
